GONZALES, LA (WAFB) -

An Ascension Christian Elementary School teacher has been "released from employment" effective Tuesday morning following her arrest for second offense DWI where here BAC registered a .285.

According to police records, 36-year-old Jamie Ingrassia was sent home from the school Monday morning, before 10 a.m. On her way home, she was involved in a crash at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 44, however, she didn't stop.

The person who was hit by Ingrassia's vehicle followed her and called in the license plate number to police.

Reports say when officers caught up to Ingrassia, they noticed she might be impaired and gave her a breathalyzer test. According to police, her blood alcohol content was .285. The legal limit is .08.

She was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center on charges of careless operation, hit and run, and second offense DWI.

According to police records, Ingrassia was charged with another DWI in St. James Parish on June 6, 2013. She was released from jail Monday evening after posting a $1,680 bond.

According to a letter sent to parents from Ascension Christian Schools, they stated:

"During Monday morning rounds, shortly after 8:00 AM, [the principal] noticed that Mrs. Ingrassia was upset. He asked a team teacher to cover the class while he met with Mrs. Ingrassia. After spending time with her in counsel and praying with her, [the principal] determined that she was not in the proper frame of mind to fulfill her duties in the classroom. However, at no time did [the principal] see any sign that she was under the influence. She did not slur her words, she did not lose her balance, nor did he detect the odor of alcohol. According to the Gonzales Police Department, later that morning, Mrs. Ingrassia was in an automobile accident and she tested positive for intoxication."

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Warmer temperatures this weekend with a few likely showers

    Thursday, January 18 2018 12:12 PM EST2018-01-18 17:12:32 GMT
Cloudy, yet low rain chance on FridayCloudy, yet low rain chance on Friday

For the rest of today, the sun will continue to shine! Temperatures will warm up a little quicker today, and should reach the 40s. There is little to no chance for any rain, so we will continue to have road conditions improve with no more added water to the surface. There should not be any more major road hazards after today. Tonight, temperatures will not be quite as cold. We will still be at or below the freezing mark, though. North of I-10 will still see the 20s.
