Baker Mayfield's transfer appeal denied

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -

Former Red Raider quarterback, Baker Mayfield, had his transfer appeal unanimously denied by a non-athletic Committee of Professors and Administrators at Texas Tech on Friday. After leaving the Red Raiders prior to their bowl game over miscommunication with the coaching staff, Mayfield hoped to get the appeal to transfer so he could walk on at the University of Oklahoma.

Texas Tech Law Professor, Brian Shannon, released this written statement:

"On Friday, Jan. 10, a panel of the Texas Tech Athletics Council heard Baker Mayfield's appeal concerning the denial of permission to contact and a one-time transfer exception with regard to the University of Oklahoma. The five member panel unanimously upheld the coach's decision and denied Baker's appeal. The decision was consistent with Texas Tech policy regarding intra-conference transfers and consistent with NCAA rules."

Baker Mayfield was in Oklahoma yesterday planning on enrolling at the University of Oklahoma, hoping to move from a student to a member of the Sooner football team. There has been no word on what his plans are now.

However, Mayfield did tell ESPN.com earlier this week that he would consider going elsewhere if he lost the appeal. However, SoonerScoop.com tweeted out they talked to Mayfield and he said he would "stick it out for now" at Oklahoma.
