Caddo superintendent releases school reconfiguration plan

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Some changes could be coming to some Caddo Parish schools struggling with enrollment and academic achievement.

Caddo Superintendent Dr. Theodis Goree released his plan for a reconfiguration of schools on Friday afternoon, identifying schools and addressing questions about the plan.

Under the proposed plan, at least 6 failing schools will be revamped to focus on curriculum by Fall. Pre-K through 3rd grade students would attend Mooretown, Caddo Heights and Sunset Acres.  Meanwhile, 4th through 6th grade students would be transferred to Midway, Atkins and Werner park.

"I think this decision is a first step in a model that we could see modeled in other feeder patterns throughout our district, but I think this is a great starting spot," says Goree, who is serving his first semester as the district's new superintendent. "I think this will make a major impact on instruction in Caddo Parish."

The Caddo Parish School Board will vote on the plan at the January 28, 2014 board meeting.
