SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -

Omega Protein Corporation will soon hold a job fair for former employees of the Cameron facility that closed in December 2013.

The job fair is only open to affected employees and will be held Monday, January 6, in Sulphur.

Ben Landry, a spokesman for Omega Protein, said that employees of other Omega Protein plants -- including Abbeville, La.;  Reedville, Va.; and Moss Point, Miss. -- will be present to discuss job openings at those plants for those who are interested in relocating.

"Our goal was to try and help the affected employees as far as future goals in terms of placement," Landry said. "We're trying to get as many affected employees back in the workforce as fast as possible."

Landry said Omega personnel, Sowela personnel and representatives from the Louisiana Workforce Commission will be present at the job fair. Sowela representatives will discuss what training would be necessary to train for a different trade.
