LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

A 30-year-old Sulphur man has been charged with motor vehicle theft and criminal damage to property after a Monday morning incident at the Five Star Quick Stop in Moss Bluff, authorities said.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman James McGee said Jeffery Brossette stole a car and crashed it into the gas pumps, gas station and then a parked car.

"The customer went inside to get coffee and left his car running," McGee said. "Brossette jumped into the car. After the accident, he was detained at the scene by customers until deputies could arrive."

Bond in the case is pending.
