Resolve to help your kids take small steps toward a healthier 2014

(CNN) - As 2014 approaches, doctors recommend that families sit down and talk about their health goals for the new year. And that should include their children. Even little ones should think about taking care of themselves.

Here are a few new year's resolution suggestions for the younger set, from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

- Wash your hands after going to the bathroom and before eating.

- Brush your teeth twice a day. 

- Don't tease animals. They may look friendly, but they can bite if they feel threatened.

- Drink water, low-fat or fat free milk every day. Sugary drinks should be a treat.

- Get out and move. Find a sport or activity you like and do it as much as possible.

- Wear a helmet when riding a bike and your seatbelt when riding in the car.

- And most importantly, be kind to others. No one likes a bully.

All great ways to raise healthy, happy kids this new year.
