Santa Claus rides local buses

LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Santa Claus took some time out of his busy schedule this year to spread holiday cheer to people in the Lake Area. He rode on several Lake Charles Transit bus routes on Christmas Eve, KPLC's Gerron Jordan reports.

Lisa Cauley of Lake Charles was happy to see him: "I couldn't go to sleep last night. I couldn't wait to wake up and see Santa on the bus. I'm just like the kids, but I think I was more happy than the kids."

Cauley said that getting the chance to ride her city bus route with Old Saint Nick brings back many memories.

"Thinking about when I was little, waiting for Santa to come down the chimney and wait for him to get that and wait to open your presents and that would be so nice. I love Christmas," she said.

The Santa Ride program is an annual gesture by the transit department to spread holiday cheer, and commuters say they are thankful.

Santa rides each bus route one time, wishing riders happy holidays and handing out candy canes to children.

Even in the midst of his busy Christmas schedule, Santa says his Lake Area responsibilities are all worth it.
