CALCASIEU PARISH, LA (KPLC) -

A 32-year-old Texas man is dead following a single-vehicle crash on La. 27 near Hackberry, state police said.

Sgt. James Anderson said Belisario D. Rodriguez, of McAllen, Texas, was driving north when he crashed into a ditch near Ellender Bridge.

Anderson said Rodriguez was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

"Rodriguez began to run off the road in a slight curve. He overcorrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to enter a ditch and roll several times into a marshy area," Anderson said in a news release. "His body was found approximately 200 feet away from the vehicle."

Anderson said the crash occurred sometime between 6 p.m. Monday and sunrise Tuesday.

"Troopers regularly encourage motorists to wear their seat belt, and this crash serves as yet another tragic reminder of how important this can be," Anderson said. "State law requires motor vehicle occupants to be properly restrained in every seating position, day and night. Wearing a seatbelt significantly reduces the likelihood of being seriously injured or killed as the result of a crash."

A group of boys are taking their love for baseball off the field and into the backyard. And no, this isn't a scene out of the 1993 classic "The Sandlot." It’s happening right here in Lake Charles.

At the David household, there's something special going on in the backyard.

“One day in the backyard we came out here and decided to start playing around,” said Dylan David, who started a Wiffle ball league with his friends.
