COLUMBIA, SC (RNN) - South Carolina kept it close in the first half but fell behind in the second, losing to Manhattan 86-68 at home on Tuesday.

The Gamecocks (2-4) grabbed an early lead and scored seven unanswered points against the Jaspers (8-2). The two teams would go back and forth a couple of times before Manhattan started to take off with six minutes in the first half. The Jaspers outscored the Gamecocks 45-34 in the first half and 41-34 in the second.

Sindarius Thornwell led South Carolina with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

This was South Carolina's second loss in a row and first loss at home this season.

The Gamecocks will host the USC Upstate Spartans on Thursday.
