BOSSIER PARISH, LA (KSLA) -

A Coushatta man died in a crash Monday afternoon south of Bossier City.

According to Louisiana State Police, troopers were called to the two-vehicle wreck on US 71 at Lock and Dam #5. There, they determined that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 76-year-old Ronald Juneau of Bossier City, was traveling north on US 71 and crossed the center line. Troopers say 64-year-old James Posey of Coushatta was heading south on US 71 at the same time, and was forced to exit the roadway in an attempt to avoid the crash. Juneau's vehicle struck the Lincoln that Posey was driving in the driver's door.

Posey suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.  Juneau and Posey were both wearing their seatbelts.

State police say routine toxicology samples were obtained from each of the drivers and will be submitted for analysis.  The crash remains under investigation.

As always, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving, buckle up and never drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued.

Troopers also want to remind drivers to avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver's attention away from the road and always obey the speed limit.

Troop G has investigated 20 fatal crashes resulting in 23 fatalities this year.
