(WAFB) -

For the second year in a row, a national survey indicated Louisiana has the worst drivers in the country.

The study by CarInsuranceComparison.com showed the Bayou State finished in the top five for three different categories: failure to obey, ticketing rate and careless driving.

The five categories used to get the score were:

Fatalities rate per 100 million vehicle miles traveled

Failure to obey (traffic signals and seatbelts)

Drunk driving

Tickets

Careless driving

The website stated bad driving contributes to increased auto insurance premiums in the state.

Louisiana's point total was 220, which was only five more than the state with the second worst drivers. That distinction went to South Carolina.

Most of the states in the top 10 worst drivers are located in the South. Mississippi, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Montana and North Dakota made up the remainder of the list.
