Potato Express 'spudders' on claim

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Do you love baked potatoes? If so, something new on the market called the Potato Express is supposed to let you cook up to four potatoes in just four minutes in your microwave, and they're supposed to come out perfectly cooked. But does it really work?

The TV commercial boasts the Potato Express "is the fastest and easiest way to cook oven baked potatoes in just four minutes. Just clip the potatoes into the Potato Express mitt and four minutes later you'll have perfect steamy baked potatoes with a tender skin and delicious fluffy inside!"

Needless to say, I had my doubts about this one. I've always had problems cooking good baked potatoes in the microwave. Mine always seem to come out dry and somewhat gummy. But this product claims to take those worries away.

The first thing I noticed once I took the product out of the packaging was the long list of warnings on the cooking mitt (bag). So, if you buy this product, make sure you read all of the warnings carefully.

For my test I used two baking potatoes. I put both in the Potato Express as directed and set the timer on the microwave to four minutes.

After the four minutes were done, I took out the Potato Express and found that the potatoes were only partially cooked. The inside of the potatoes were still very hard. On the cooking bag it explains at the very bottom that you may have to adjust cooking times depending on the wattage of your microwave oven.

My end result was half-cooked baked potatoes at the promised four-minute mark. You may have better luck, especially with two to four potatoes in the Potato Express, if you let them cook a minute or two longer than the suggested four-minute time frame.

We found the Potato Express online for $10 at Amazon.com and they should also be available at select stores

It's estimated between four and five hundred people perished in Hurricane Audrey which crept on shore earlier than expected about 3 a.m. June 27th in 1957.  The loss and heartbreak unimaginable for so many.   The late Rodney Guilbeaux lost seven family members including his mother.  "At a quarter to seven a humongous wave hit.  They could see it coming," he said in an interview around the year 2000.  "They knew that that was the end. ...
