NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A father showed up to drop off his children at school and ended up getting hauled off to jail on Monday.

When Joseph Skinner Sr. walked his 5-year-old inside Tusculum Elementary School, school employees say they noticed Skinner was stumbling, bleeding from his forehead, and had grass stains on his body.

When they asked Skinner what was going on, he allegedly told them that he took prescription pills before dropping his child off at school.

The school called police, who came to the school and say they stopped Skinner with a 2-year-old inside the car.

According to the police report, Skinner could hardly stand up when talking to police.

Skinner was charged with DUI. After doing a background check, they found out he had a parole violation out of Georgia.

Police say Skinner had a prescription for the drugs, but it's still considered driving under the influence.
