AU announcer says he doesn’t remember making “Miracle at Jordan-Hare” play call

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -

If you're an Auburn fan, chances are you still can't believe Auburn's Ricardo Lewis caught the bobbled ball in the last minute to win the game.

Auburn University announcer Rod Bramblet's play call is being heralded as the best in Auburn history, and as News Leader 9's Elizabeth White reports, he doesn't even remember making it.

"Here you go, here is your ball game. Auburn Tigers 4th and 18, Nick Marshal steps up and he is going to throw just a home run ball, and it's tipped up, Louis catches it on the deflection, Louis is going to score, Louis is going to score! A miracle in Jordan-Hare! A miracle in Jordan Hare, 73 yard touchdown with 25 seconds to go Auburn leaders 43 to 38!"

AU lead announcer Rod Bramblett's "A miracle in Jordan Hare" is being hailed as the best sports call in Auburn football history.

"I don't know if it's the best call, but I will say this it is one of those moments in Auburn football and college football that is just crazy and makes this sort so great," said Bramblett.

It's one of those calls and plays an Auburn fan will never forget, even though Bramble doesn't remember any of it.

"I don't remember anything I said, I don't remember any of it," Bramblett recalled. "I have had two or three that were that way that boom just out of the blue and I turn to Stan White and I say ‘I don't know Stan, what just happened, what did I say?"

Now, it's time to look forward to perhaps the Biggest Iron Bowl in history, with a winner-take-all feel, it should be another miraculous night inside Jordan-Hare.

"For Auburn people, I don't know if anything Iron Bowl will be as big as the 1989 in terms of what it meant to have it here for the first time, but in terms of ramifications stand point in college football landscape there has never been a bigger one that affects the division conference, the SEC title, BCS title," said Bramblett. "So it's the biggest rivalry in college football deciding all of the above and that will make it spectacular."

Tickets for the Iron Bowl on the major ticket websites are anywhere from $400 to $3,000, and the game is still two weeks away.

It's estimated between four and five hundred people perished in Hurricane Audrey which crept on shore earlier than expected about 3 a.m. June 27th in 1957.  The loss and heartbreak unimaginable for so many.   The late Rodney Guilbeaux lost seven family members including his mother.  "At a quarter to seven a humongous wave hit.  They could see it coming," he said in an interview around the year 2000.  "They knew that that was the end. ...
