WDAM Viewpoint- Midwest tornadoes

The scale of the severe storm that produced 140 tornado warnings on Sunday became clearer Monday.

Experts from the National Weather Service are saying that the outbreak in the Midwest may go down as one of the most powerful to hit the region in decades. Our discussions lately here at the station have been centered on the recent severe weather reports around the world and how weather events have certainly been in the news a lot lately. And while the destruction in February in our area was extensive, there was no loss of life. This sobering fact causes us to reflect on just how fortunate we were last February.

    There were 465,676 children missing across the country in 2016, according to the FBI. That was the total number of entries on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCIC). In 2015, there were 460,699.     Through tonight we will see just a few passing clouds and we’ll have mostly clear skies. No rain is expected for the next few days. The winds have now turned back to the south earlier today. This will increase our humidity and temperatures. Overnight, we will struggle to get out of the 70s. Friday will have mostly sunny skies. Winds will be blowing fairly strong around 10 to 15 mph out of the south. We will occasionally get gusts up to 25 mph.
