JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

State Senator John Horhn made his first court appearance since being charged with DUI last week. Jackson police arrested him Thursday just before midnight on Beasley Road, in front of Callaway High School.

Horhn walked through the front doors of the Jackson police station around 10 Monday morning, making his way to the courtroom. He soon was escorted out of the courtroom and taken to the prosecutors office.

Horhn did not appear before the judge. He and his attorney, Ed Blackman, spent about an hour in the prosecutors office. Horhn was let out a back door at JPD.

"It has to go through the judicial process," said Hohrn. "And while it's in the hands of the courts I think it's best that I not make any comments and respect the process. I think we should all respect the process and at the appropriate time I'll be happy to make comments."

Prior to Horhn's arrest, he was speaking to a crowd at the capitol about the crime in Jackson.
