PERRYSBURG TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A local gas station suffered major damage to its building on Sunday, along with the rest of the community.

The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF 2 tornado touched down on Lime City Road Sunday evening, but it reached its strength at Oregon Road and state Route 795 with 125 mph winds.

The Circle K at that intersection in Perrysburg Township sustained serious damage, as the canopy came down in the front, onto the gas pumps.

There was also damage to buildings nearby, as the area was littered with debris from power wires to sheets of metal and personal items from homeowners' garages.

No injuries were reported in that area, but power outages still remain. The Wood County EMA director says at least 5,000 are without power Monday, and they may not see it come back on until Wednesday night.

Residents nearby say they heard loud winds and then picture frames inside their homes started to shake.

"We had debris in our yard. It's just a mess. It looks like a war zone. It really does. We have never in 17 years lost a piece of skirting and now we've lost it all," said Yvonne Hawkins.

Neighbors say they couldn't believe what they heard.

"I thought it was hail, but it was all debris from the neighbor's garage hitting the house," said Margaret Carstensen.

The Red Cross is opening a shelter at Cedar Creek in Perrysburg on Lime City Road. Doors will open to anyone needing a place to stay Monday night at 7.

High grass and weeds can be hiding places for pests like rodents and snakes, and they can breed mosquitoes. That's why Lake Charles resident Raymond LeDay wants to know why billion-dollar company Entergy doesn't cut its grass. The Southeast corner of Highway 171 and Fitzenreiter Road is a large tract of land. Much, if not most of it, is owned by Entergy.
