VICKSBURG, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A highly respected Warren County law officer was laid to rest Sunday in Vicksburg. Central District Constable Randy Naylor Sr. was remembered as a compassionate and dedicated public servant. Naylor spent 25 years in uniform protecting residents in the city and county while reaching out to guide the young people in the community.

Law officers from Warren County lined the walkway in front of the Vicksburg City Auditorium paying final tribute to Constable Naylor. More than 1,100 family, friends and area law enforcement officers attended the funeral honoring his life and service. Eighteen years of his career were spent as a detective with the Vicksburg Police Department.

"He didn't meet a stranger. He would help anybody...If you wanted one person you could count on to call, if you wanted to get something done call Randy Naylor," said his best friend Lt. Jackie Johnson with the Vicksburg Police Department.

The 60 year old also served as a school resource officer and made an impact on the lives of children.

"He was one of those persons that loved this entire community, and it showed everyday that he came to work. He certainly had a strong passion for our youth. He played a major role in our youth upbringing," said Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong.

"You have to say thank you for a man that loves children...He worked in the school district, and a lot of children got to know Randy. A lot of families got to know Randy," said his sister-in-law Mary Reed.

In 2008 the Vicksburg native was elected constable, a position he held until his death from a lengthy illness. The Warren County Tax Assessor's Office presented his family a resolution for his work in the community.

"Officer Naylor was a pillar for this community. Officer Naylor had a compassionate heart and a sincere spirit of helping people," said Tax Assessor Angela Brown.

Naylor is survived by his wife Dorothy, two daughters and two sons. Burial was held at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg.
