Gamecocks move up in AP Poll, Clemson remains at No. 8

COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) South Carolina jumped two spots in the latest Associated Press Poll released on Sunday morning. The Gamecocks, ranked  No. 11 in the new poll, are coming off of a bye week and will host Florida Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Wide receiver Kane Whitehurst and the Gamecocks will look to wrap up the SEC season with a victory on Saturday night against Florida

The Gamecocks (7-2, 5-2) have been ranked 59 consecutive weeks in the poll, which extends their school record-long streak. South Carolina is tied with Stanford for fifth-longest current streak of being ranked in the AP Top 25.

Alabama continued its perfect season and hold onto the top spot in the poll after defeating LSU 38-17 at home in Saturday's featured game in college football. Only Florida State received first place votes aside from the Crimson Tide. LSU dropped eight spots to No. 10 nationally.

Aside from Alabama, Auburn was the second-highest ranked team from the conference entering the week holding the No. 7 spot in the AP Poll. The Tigers, with their 55-23 win at Tennessee, held firm in the poll.

Missouri was the third top 10 team from the SEC entering the week. The Tigers started slow but walloped Kentucky 48-17 to stay at No. 9 in the country.

Clemson is still ranked No. 8 and will play Georgia Tech on Thursday.

Texas A&M held on to beat Mississippi State in a 51-41 shootout at Kyle Field, which is the last home game for the Aggies this year. Will it be quarterback Johnny Manziel's final home game? His team moved up a spot to No. 10 in the poll.

Georgia, with its win over Appalachian State and the losses ahead of them, moved back into the poll at No. 25.

    Few showers SaturdayFew showers Saturday

Tonight we will still have many clouds around us, but the rain chances are low. There were a few small showers that popped up during the day, but they have come to an end. There is the possibility of some fog overnight, especially near the coast. Temperatures will remain warm, with lows only in the lower 70s. This weekend will bring more rain, particularly on Sunday. Saturday’s rain chances are still up to 30%, so we could have a few small showers during the day.
