Rosepine Volunteer Fire Department on strike

Posted: Updated:
ROSEPINE, LA (KPLC) -

The Rosepine Volunteer Fire Department is shut down and closed until further notice.

Volunteer fire fighters shut the fire house down on Tuesday night.

This is the second time within the last year that the volunteer fire fighters have walked out. According to officials with the Rosepine VFD, the strike is over the Vernon Parish Fire Board not working with them on getting updated equipment.

The lack of new equipment has raised the area's fire rating to a 7, which has also raised residents' insurance rates.

Anyone in need of assistance by the fire department can call 911. Until things can be resolved, the Sandy Hill Volunteer Fire Department is covering for Rosepine VFD. However, in the event of a fire -- officials say there will be a delay.

The last closure lasted for  a month.

We have reached out to the Vernon Parish Fire Board, but have yet to hear back from anyone.

KPLC's Erica Bivens will have more on this story tonight at Six.
