DJ VH1 PERFORMS ON RPR'S FLOAT FOR CITY'S 40TH ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARADE
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Rubenstein Public Relations (RPR) celebrated Halloween in New York City's 40th Annual Village Halloween Parade. The firm was the third in the lineup to travel up Sixth Avenue on its superhero-themed float featuring DJ VH (a.k.a Brendan Jay Sullivan), best known for collaborating with Lady Gaga.
Inspired by the strength and courage of New York City after Hurricane Sandy, the agency's float was themed "Gotham Superheroes" to coincide with the parade's theme, REVIVAL. RPR employees, along with friends and family, rode the float in their favorite superhero costumes. DJ VH1 pumped up the crowd with his set list, which included top 40 hits, remixes of Halloween favorites and classic mash-ups. In addition to enjoying music from DJ VH1, the crowd received candy and Mardi Gras beads passed out by the RPR staff.
"The RPR team, its family, and friends had a great time celebrating the revival of the Village Halloween Parade on its 40th anniversary," said Richard Rubenstein, President of Rubenstein Public Relations. "It was an excellent team-building opportunity to develop our own tradition, as well as foster camaraderie among our staff."
DJ VH1 is a writer and producer from Brooklyn who appeared in Lady Gaga's music video for Just Dance and is known for his signature style of inventive remixes and floor fillers. Harper Collins recently released his first book, Rivington Was Ours: Lady Gaga, the Lower East Side and the Prime of Our Lives, in August 2013. Known for "bringing rock 'n' roll to the dance floor" and as "the nicest guy in nightlife" in New York, DJ VH1's sly attitude and attention to classics inspired The Ting Tings to write their first single, "Great DJ."
In addition to participating in the parade, RPR volunteered its public relations services to help the parade, a not-for-profit arts organization, and raised over $50,000 through a Kickstarter campaign to ensure that the parade took place this year. RPR generated awareness on behalf of the organization to drive online traffic to the Kickstarter website, where supporters were able to make donations. The firm also secured the participation of Kelly Ripa, who served as the parade's grand marshal.
Last year, for the first time in the Parade's history, the iconic event was cancelled due to Superstorm Sandy. Proceeds from the campaign allowed the parade to recover considerable financial losses from the last minute cancellation of last year's celebration, as well as to provide financial backing for the parade in future years.
The iconic event has entertained the public on Halloween night for the past 40 years, attracting over two million people from across the globe at the 2011 parade alone. Last year's cancellation was the first in the parade's history, a milestone the organization never wished to meet. The parade has historically helped to lift the spirits of the global community in the face of devastation and destruction. It marked the first major event in New York after 9/11 and welcomed thousands of New Orleans locals after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
