LONGVILLE, LA (KPLC) -

The Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office says 51-year-old Randal Langley, the man accused of shooting and killing his wife on Sunday, is in a Lake Charles hospital with unknown injuries following a single-vehicle accident in Merryville that happened while he was fleeing the crime scene.

Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Joe Toler said Randal Langley was airlifted to Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles after wrecking his vehicle in Merryville. Officials in Lake Charles were then able to positively identify him as the suspect in the shooting.

Randal Langley is accused of shooting and killing his wife, 44-year-old, Sherry Lynn Langley. He has been booked into the Beauregard Parish Jail on $1,750,000 bond on a second-degree murder charge.

Sheriff Ricky Moses said the couple's daughter called 911 shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon after Sherry Langley had been shot.

Authorities say Randal Langley fled the scene after the shooting which prompted a multi-parish, multi-agency search effort.

Moses said a motive has not been determined yet, but said a preliminary reports show it was a domestic issue.

Sherry Langley was an employee at South Beauregard Upper Elementary School.
