It’s just another way that Nick Saban motivates his players: He reminds them each year around the time that the spring game is held that the players from the winning team will be eating steak the next Monday night while the losers will be eating beans.

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The Alabama Crimson Tide got off to a slow start in their game against the Kentucky Wildcats before pulling way ahead to win.

Many could only express surprise with the inability of the nation's #1 ranked team to score in the first quarter. Fumbles by Kenyan Drake and T.J. Yeldon ended two promising drives by the Tide while Kentucky punted away all of their possessions. The first score came two minutes into the second quarter, when Alabama made a 12-play drive to the Kentucky 8 yard line. Cade Foster was called in to kick the 25-yard field goal.

The Tide defense kept Kentucky to 11 yards on their next possession and followed up with another score. Christion Jones' punt return took the Tide to the Kentucky 32. The next play, Kevin Norwood nabbed an A.J. McCarron pass to bring the team to the 1-yard line. Kenyan Drake made 1-yard rush for the touchdown. Foster's extra point was good.

The next Alabama possession yielded similar results, just not as quick. The 12-play drive covered 88 yards. T.J. Yeldon made the big play of the drive when he broke free for a 24-yard rush into the endzone. Foster's extra point set the score at 17-0.

The last touchdown of the half came with 24 seconds remaining before halftime. The 6-play drive covered 70 yards and ended with a 1-yard rush by Kenyan Drake. Drake also saw a 24-yard gain from a McCarron pass during the drive. The teams went into the locker rooms with a score of 24-0.

Returning from halftime, Alabama forced another Kentucky punt and made their way to the endzone again. The 4-play drive consisted of an incomplete pass, a 34-yard Yeldon rush, a 42-yard Cooper reception and a 3-yard rush for the score by Yeldon.

The Wildcats found their way into the endzone halfway through the 3rd quarter. The 9-play drive covered 75 yards. Javess Blue got the TD with a 30-yard pass from Maxwell Smith. Joe Mansour's extra point put the score at 31-7.

Before the end of the 3rd quarter, the Tide added to their score with another field goal. The 12-play drive covered 70 yards, but the offense was stopped at the UK 2 yard line. Cade Foster came in and kicked a 20-yard field goal.

Alabama added another touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 4-play drive across 80 yards. After a Yeldon rush for 12 yards, A.J. McCarron completed three big passes in a row. A pass to Yeldon gained 21-yards, another one to DeAndrew White gained 27-yards and a 20-yard pass to Kevin Norwood secured the touchdown. Foster's extra point set the score at 41-7.

The last touchdown of the game came from Alabama's Altee Tenpenny. Tenpenny capped off a 12-play drive for 57 yards with a 7 yard rush. The extra point made the score 48-7 with 1:41 remaining in the game.

Next week, Alabama takes on Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
