SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Some programs under the Shreveport Housing Authority may be seeing some changes if the government shutdown goes into November.

The Family Self Sufficiency Program with the Shreveport Housing Authority is one of the programs that could be affected. The program is designed to help anyone on public housing find their way to home ownership.

"It's different from when you want to move, than when you have to move," says Chaunna Jordan. Jordan is a graduate of the program. She says the program helped her get back on her feet after Hurricane Katrina.

The program requires those in it to set 3 goals that will help them become self-sufficient thorough full-time employment. Also, the program helps to supplement rent cost, and graduates receive money at the end to use toward a down payment on a new home.

"Maintain a career in my field," says Regina Washington. Washington says the program helped her reach her own goals.

But Washington is also worried about the impact the Government Shutdown will have on the future of the program.

"If this doesn't take effect, then where will I find the extra income from to cover this expense," says Washington.

But regardless of what happens in congress, Jordan says the program has given her something that can't be taken away, the ability to believe in herself.
