Candlelight vigil held for pastor shot during church service

Posted: Updated:

One by one, the people of Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center gathered at the church on Tuesday night.

Many of them witnessed Pastor Ronald Harris Sr. shot and killed there during a Friday night church service allegedly by former deacon Woodrow Karey Jr.

The church rallied behind Harris' wife, Frances, and her family. As the sun went down, they lit candles to remember the man who led them for 20 years.

This united front comes a day after investigators revealed a possible sexual relationship between Pastor Harris and Karey's wife. Though she didn't address us directly, Harris' daughter, Talisha, spoke loud and clear to her fellow church members.

"I don't care what the media say ... I don't care what the people say ... I don't care what nobody say. Because he touched all of your lives," said Talisha Harris.

Karey remains jailed on a $1.5 million bond.

A memorial service for Harris is set for Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at True Light Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Charles.

The wake for Harris is Friday, Oct. 11, and the funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 12, both at the Agape Love Center in Natchitoches.
