GLENDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

When your husband or boyfriend is missing in action because it's football Sunday, there's a name for you: football widow.

Ironically, in the city that's home to an NFL team that will host the 2015 Super Bowl, the city of Glendale has a new team: The Football Widow's Club.

Over the next 14 weeks the club will shop and hike, take in the theater and the symphony.

"Not everyone wants to spend their time in a bar, watching TV on Sundays," said Marcheta Strunk with the city of Glendale.

The club was Strunk's idea. Sunday was the first meeting and the assembled ladies had a craft lesson on how to prepare a football-themed table runner for a party at home.

"The most expensive thing is the beer you put in your beverage station," said Haley Gibbons, who runs a do-it-yourself website.

"I'm not a real big football fan, so my husband sits there in front of the television. I'm usually outside doing something boring," Strunk said.

The city of Glendale has a list of activities planned for football Sundays through December.
