Suspect takes incriminating 'selfies'

By Jeff Skrzypek

BOCA RATON, FL (WFLX) - The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is on the hunt for the person who broke into a car and stole an iPad.

Investigators have a decent idea of who it could be due to the alleged thief taking a string of self-incriminating "selfies".

Whoever ended up with the iPad, took pictures of themselves without realizing the owner of the device was watching from afar.

The crime occurred at South County Regional Park in Boca Raton.

Reports indicate the burglar struck while parents and kids were busy with flag football practice. "At first, I was like, 'Who is this?' But then I noticed she's got the iTouch there," said the victim who did not want her identity revealed.

The pictures were taken just moments after the theft. They depict a woman in various positions posing for the camera.

Using remote access through iCloud, the owner of the iPad began saving each photograph for investigators. "I couldn't believe it. She's sitting there with her tongue sticking out and all these 'selfie' pictures. It was pretty bold. It was pretty shocking," said the victim.

Investigators are now looking to identify who is in the series of pictures because the recent victim is not alone.

The flag football league sent out an email warning parents after several other cars were broken into at the park. "I know what she looks like. The sheriff's office knows what she looks like. People on Facebook know what she looks like and the news knows what she looks like," said the victim. "We just need someone to turn her in."

The woman whose iPad was stolen is offering a cash reward to anyone who discloses information that leads to an arrest.

Tonight will be very stormy with plenty of showers around. There will be heavy rain at times with some strong storms. Winds are likely to gust up to 20 mph. Most of the stronger and severe weather will stay to our north. It does not mean we will not see some outbreak. The severe risk for us is not zero. Rain chances for tonight are up to 80%. This rain is caused from a cold front that will stall over us, or slow down by Sunday. This will allow the rain to last most of our Sunday.
