Both sides come to discuss possible rapid bus system

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

People gathered on Tuesday evening for a community meeting to discuss the new "AMP" rapid bus system that would connect the West End to Five Points across Nashville.

Supporters say the AMP will connect the city like never before, but opponents are worried about traffic congestion and the service the bus line will provide.

"With only four stations, stops between I-440 and 40, it's not convenient to any of the hospitals. It's not convenient to the major destinations in the area. Local bus service, at the curb, with many more stops, provides a higher quality bus service in an area with dense destinations," said Malcolm Getz, who opposes the AMP.

If approved, the project is estimated to cost $175 million. The city would have to front about $65 million towards the project.

The rest would be paid for through federal grants.

    Have a Great Thanksgiving!Have a Great Thanksgiving!

For today, it will be nothing more than perfect! It will even feel a lot like fall as well! High temperatures will be in the lower 60s, so most of the day temperatures will be in the 50s! Along with the cooler temperatures, we will have more sunny skies and low humidity. This is great weather to get outside before (or after) the big meal! If you’re heading out tonight for Black Friday deals, the weather should be really nice! There will likely be no clouds in the sky.
