FAIRWAY, KS (KCTV) -

If you've got kids, you've been there and know how difficult it can be trying to comfort them when it's storming outside or there are loud noises.

But one Kansas City native is getting national attention on YouTube for his quick and smart parenting skills.

"When we hear ‘sshhhh,' that means there's fireworks," young Adeline Ames is heard saying on the video where she sits next to her dad, who holds a ukulele.

The two show that sometimes there's nothing more soothing than song to calm fears.

Kansas City native Ben Ames had no idea the video he posted for his family back in Kansas City would get nearly a half a million hits since Sunday.

The family lives in Austria and Ben Ames' 4 year-old daughter Adeline was scared because of a fireworks show near the family's home. So Ben Ames grabbed a guitar and a camera to calm her down.

"She really hates loud noises. Even when she was in the womb, anytime a door would slam she would always jump in the womb, and even now she hides under blankets when she hears loud noises," he said.

It's a case of great parenting 101 and while Ben Ames didn't expect family members to share the video, he's gotten some pretty amazing feedback from folks he doesn't even know.

He adds, when your child is hurting, you want to do all you can to help.

"You just love your kid so much and you don't want to see them in any stress," Ben Ames said. "Any soothing I could provide, I was there to do it."

And with enough singing, Ben Ames has learned the storms and even fireworks will eventually be over.

Since posting the video on Sunday, the clip has gotten more than 500,000 views.

FIRST ALERT FORECAST: Scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout this week

    Sunday, May 28 2017 5:25 PM EDT2017-05-28 21:25:05 GMT
Rain likely on Memorial DayRain likely on Memorial Day

Through tonight we will see mostly cloudy skies with scattered thunderstorms. At times we could see heavy rainfall. The rain will make its way out by sunrise on Memorial Day. The winds are still blowing out of the south and will continue to blow 5-10 mph overnight. This will keep our temperatures warm. Overnight, we will struggle to get out of the 70s once again. Unfortunately, the rain chances are still high for Memorial Day and through next week.
