NEW MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

Dozens of people in northwest Connecticut have reported seeing a moose on the loose.

Moose sightings have been reported in places like New Milford, Kent, Warren and Washington, and Channel 3 Eyewitness News has received numerous photographs to our iWitness account showing the moose crossing the road and spotted in fields.

The moose, which has been named Marty by some Connecticut residents, walked through the parking lot at New Milford Hospital and spent several minutes in there, witnesses said.

"He could care less who was watching him and what we were doing," said John Miele, who was the first one to see the animal.

Police were actually called to the hospital to make sure everyone was safe and let the animal leave the parking lot without incident.

"Quite a few employees of the hospital were out on the front steps taking it in because there aren't too many in this area," said Miele, who added he "locked eyes" with the animal.

After leaving the hospital, he disappeared into the woods and his whereabouts are unknown at this time.

Officials at the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said they are not tracking him and letting the animal go about his business.

Moose are usually shy, but like any wild animal they are unpredictable, DEEP officials said. Anyone who sees the moose should call local police.

Moose are also a danger to motorists. DEEP officials said motorists should use extra caution when driving because if a moose is hit, they are more likely to collapse through the windshield because of how tall the animals are.

As for Marty the Moose, people have created a Facebook page in his honor and has more than 1,000 Likes, which is filled with pictures.

"Everybody's got a Facebook page nowadays, who knows, it's probably more popular that us," said Miele.

Have you seen it? Send us a photograph to iWitness@wfsb.com.

In May, a moose in Manchester was hit and killed after wandering onto Interstate 384. No one in the vehicle was hurt when it hit and killed the moose.

Tonight, it should be another nice, yet warm evening. Any clouds we see today will clear away around sunset, and the rain chances go back to zero tonight. The temperatures will be fairly warm. They should not cool out of the 70s in most places. Especially near the coastline. North of I-10 has a chance to too the upper 60s, but it will still be warm. This will start off with more hot and humid conditions. There will likely be plenty of clouds every now and then.
