Police on abduction attempt: 'It's crucial we follow every lead'

RAINS COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Around 7:30 Tuesday morning, the Rains County Sheriff's Office began investigating an attempted child abduction in Point.

According to police, the incident happened off Highway 69 near County Road 1310. The Rains County Sheriff's Office says a 15-year-old girl told them that two Hispanic males attempted to pull her into their pickup truck through the passenger-side window. The girl told authorities that she was able to run away from the men, one of which she described as wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.

Point Police Chief Serena Booth says the girl described the truck as a "full-size, black newer-model, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet."

"We're definitely continuing on this investigation. It's crucial that we follow every lead that we possibly can," says Chief Booth. 

Booth adds that this incident did not happen at a school bus stop.

Rains ISD says that even though the incident did not take place at a bus stop, their drivers have been notified to be alert and on the lookout for the suspect vehicle.

    The Calcasieu Parish Public Library annual summer reading program is underway. The kick-off celebration was held at Prien Lake Park. It included registration, face painting, kite flying, bird house building and even Clifford the Big Red Dog. The reading program runs from now until July 7.
