LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC) -

Charges have been upgraded in a weekend bar fight that turned deadly.

Nineteen-year-old Auston Soileau now faces a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 30-year-old Chad Babineaux, who died at the hospital.

Police say he was fatally injured trying to break up the fight.

It happened Saturday at "On The Rocks" near McNeese State University.

Soileau was initially charged with second-degree battery with a $50,000 bond. His bond now stands at $1.5 million. It was set by Judge Michael Canaday.

On Tuesday, Lake Charles Police spokesman Mark Kraus said Dr. Terry Welke with the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office ruled the death a homicide.

Lake Charles Police would still like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident.

Those with information can call Detective Dustin Gaudet or Sgt. Lecia McCullough at 337-491-1311 or Crime Stoppers at 337-439-2222.
