TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The search for missing Toledo toddler Elaina Steinfurth has been emotional for so many people. With searches, rallies and vigils, people are now starting to cope with the loss. Neighbors say they are handling this the best way they can.

Baby Elaina went missing back in June and people in the community have been meeting at the corner of Federal Street in east Toledo to show their support ever since.

On Tuesday, after neighbors learned human remains found in a garage last week were Elaina's, they met with family members to give hugs and condolences.

"I have nieces and nephews, and I couldn't imagine if any of that would happen to them or my family," said neighbor William Poulson.

Through this whole ordeal, the community has been behind the family, from supporting them at vigils, to even bringing them ice cream to keep them cool in the summer heat. Neighbors say they do it because they know the loss of any child is unimaginable.

A woman who lives near 704 Federal Street - who does not want to be identified - claims for the past two months, she and Steven King's family have been targeted and threatened.

"I've known the family for over 30 years and they've been through a lot of harassment. Cars driving by yelling at them, threatening to burn down their home," said the woman.

She says no family should have to deal with this extra grief during difficult times like these.

"Parents cannot be held responsible for what their children do. And I do not believe anyone else in that house was aware of what was going on," she said.

This family friend and long-time neighbor says the King family only wants justice for baby Elaina.

"If Steven did more than just cover it up, then I'm sure his parents feel he should be held responsible for that, but the harassment to the family is uncalled for," she said.
