Guards at the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola opened fire on a car Sunday after the driver allegedly accelerated through the gatehouse at the entrance of the maximum security facility, sources tell our Baton Rouge sister station WAFB 9News.
Around 3 p.m. a vehicle with two small children inside broke through a barrier and drove into prison grounds, a prison spokesperson said. Per prison protocol at least one guard then opened fire on the vehicle, causing it to crash.
Officials say no one was injured in the shooting and the driver was apprehended. The car reportedly circled the area outside the gatehouse several times before the incident.
