LAKE CHARLES – McNeese's historic 53-21 win over South Florida continues to reap the benefits as the Cowboys have been tabbed for a No. 25 ranking in a weekly major college power poll by Dennis Dodd, a cbssports.com senior college football columnist.

Topping the poll is Ohio State followed by Alabama, Oregon, Stanford and Clemson to round out the top five.

McNeese is one of three Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) teams to break into the poll.  North Dakota State is ranked No. 15 after its win over Kansas State while Eastern Washington, who defeated Oregon State, is in at No. 22.

Rounding out the top ten is Louisville, South Carolina, Florida State, Texas A&M and LSU.

The Cowboys set two college football records in the win over South Florida by a FCS team over against a BCS automatic qualifying team with 53 points scored and the 32-point margin of victory.

It's the first time in school history McNeese football has been ranked in a major college Top 25 poll.

On Monday, the Cowboys broke into two FCS Top 25 polls – ranking No. 18 in the Sports Network poll and 20th in the FCS Coaches Poll.

McNeese opens its home season on Saturday when it hosts Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 7:30 in Cowboys Stadium in a game that will be televised live on Comcast SportsNet Houston.

Tickets are currently on sale at the McNeese ticket office or by calling 562-4MSU.
