MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Nearly six months after being arrested and charge for a campus shooting that targeted his wife, a Montgomery man is pleading guilty to the crime.

Reginald Brown, 37, issued a plea in Montgomery Circuit Court on February 6 of attempted murder. His sentencing date is set for March 6, 2014.

Brown walked onto the Faulkner University campus in August 2013 and critically shot his wife. Medics rushed the female victim with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital that Tuesday afternoon. She ultimately survived the attack.

After the shooting, Brown left Faulkner University's Atlanta Highway campus but was later apprehended and arrested. He was charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and unauthorized use of a firearm and was held on a bond totaling $516,000.

Montgomery police said the campus shooting occurred near a maintenance building, not near students. MPD commended Faulkner officials for their quick response.

Following the shooting, Faulkner University released a statement saying:

A shooting occurred on our Montgomery campus today. The suspect has been apprehended and all offices and classes are operating on their normal schedules. In what appears to have been a domestic situation, a contract employee was injured in the shooting and has been taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her condition is not known at this time. The Montgomery Police Department is following up on the incident. At no time were any students involved in the incident. Faulkner University asks everyone to be in prayer for the victim and offers its sincere gratitude to campus security and law enforcement officers for their rapid response.

Some Faulkner University students received a text alert saying: "(Active Shooter on Campus) Emergency! Armed person on campus. Go to nearest room and lock door. If off campus, do not enter campus. Follow instructions from auth." Campus leaders, however, are confirming that many students and faculty never received the alert. An internal probe was issued and said the system was repaired.
