2-A-Days Previews: Southwood High School

Posted: Updated:

The Southwood Cowobys look to wrangle up some wins in a stacked 5A district.

"It's an extremely good district to be in," said Anthony McClain, Southwood's head football coach. "There are some favorites in it right now but I think each coach if you ask them, the 5A district is extremely competitive and it's fairly large. We have some really good football in 5A in this part of town."

Southwood's offense has another year of experience under its belt with most of the core returning for another season.

"We were pretty young last year on the field so we've got Chris Black back. He's playing quarterback for us. Ketron Crowder is back. Brandon Lawson. We've got more back then not back so we're only replacing a few on offense."

Defensively, the biggest hole to fill was in the secondary.

"Everyone knowing what their job is," said Darion Simpson, a senior leader on the Cowboys defense. "Being familiar with the playbook and familiar with the plays we run so we should be able to be more comfortable and be able to play as a team."

Southwood starts their season, September 6th, against Minden.
