2-A-Days Previews: Calvary Baptist

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

There has been a deeper emphasis on conditioning during Calvary football practice.

"It's been pretty tough but we've been pushing through," said Jordan Kennedy, Calvary senior wide receiver.

This season the athletes are being asked to do more; more reps, more snaps, more downs. Some players will be asked to play both offense and defense in games this season.

"We've usually been 11 on offense and 11 on defense and you'll probably have a good five to seven guys in any given time going both ways," said John Bachman, head coach of the Cavilers. "We got to looking at where we were and who we had coming back and that kind of stuff and decided the safest, best thing was to make sure that we could provide depth on both sides of the ball."

The Cavs can attribute the change to the loss of nearly 20 seniors, the majority of which were on offense.

Senior Shun Brown is back from an off-season surgery and will be asked to do a lot this year. Another change for Calvary is the challenge of a new district which scratches rival Evangel off the schedule.

"When you lose an Evangel and don't have to play them it's a big rivalry game but if you're asking me if I'm losing sleep because I don't get to play them this year then the answer is no," said Bachman.
