Attorney: Video of alleged Vanderbilt rape sent to friends

Joseph Quinzio Joseph Quinzio
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The attorney for one of the men charged with tampering with evidence in a Vanderbilt rape case confirms to the Channel 4 I-Team that his client, Joseph Quinzio, received video of the alleged rape through a text message.

Attorney Brett Greenfield said when Quinzio saw the video, he became disturbed.

"This is a good young man, trying to do the right thing, and was initially put in a bad situation. He was scared, didn't know how to react to the situation," Greenfield said.

The Channel 4 I-Team has pieced together how Quinzio and Miles Finley, both from Riverside County, CA, are linked to the rape case at Vanderbilt.

Former Vanderbilt football player Branden Vandenburg is friends with Quinzio and Finley, and all played football at Xavier College Prep.

Vandenburg is not only charged with five counts of rape and two counts of sexual battery of an unconscious female Vanderbilt student, but also photographing the female victim and passing on the photographs to others.

Greenfield confirms in this case, the photograph is actually video. Quinzio and Finley are now charged with tampering with electronic evidence.

"He's (Quinzio) being accused of somehow tampering with or destroying evidence, and nothing could be further than the truth," Greenfield said.

Metro police went to California in July to interview Quinzio and Finley.

Greenfield said his client was so disturbed by the video, on Aug. 16 he went to the Riverside County Sheriff's department to tell everything he knew.

"Doing the right thing was what prompted him to go to the sheriff. Knowing that there was an investigation, that the investigation needed facts that he knew," Greenfield said.

Greenfield said only when he Quinzio showed up to talk to investigators did he find out that there was a warrant out for his arrest in Tennessee.

"He (Greenfield) was simply sent a text message, unwanted, unsolicited, out of the blue, put in a terrible situation by someone who he thought was a friend," Greenfield said.

Quinzio, who is fighting extradition to Tennessee, is due to appear for a bail hearing in Riverside on Wednesday afternoon.
