LAKE ARTHUR, LA (KPLC) -

A man received a non-life threatening injury early Sunday in an officer-involved shooting in Lake Arthur.

Lake Arthur Police Chief Cheryl Vincent said the officer has been placed on administrative leave pending a State Police investigation into the incident.

Vincent said the department got a call about a disturbance between a man and a woman at a home at around 2 a.m. Sunday.

Vincent said the responding officer knocked on the door and the man came out and pointed a rifle at him. She said the officer backed out and called for backup. She said while backup was heading to the home, the female and two children were able to get out.

Vincent said the man then pointed the gun on the woman and children.

"That's when the officer shot him," she said.

Vincent said the man is in stable condition. She said the woman was also taken to the hospital, treated and released from injuries she received in the disturbance prior to the officer's arrival.

Vincent said the man will face charges in the incident.

Many parents are angry after finding out there is a chance their child might not be able to attend pre-kindergarten for the upcoming school year.

A family's income has to be below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines to be accepted into a pre-K program with Calcasieu Parish Schools.

Unfortunately, many families who applied didn't meet those requirements, and have received a letter saying they've been wait listed.
