U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., is in Southwest Louisiana on Monday, addressing the need for a skilled workforce for jobs like the Sasol project will provide.

She made an appearance at SOWELA in Lake Charles.

The senator is speaking about the unprecedented expansion of plants in the area with an estimated $48 billion expected to be invested in Southwest Louisiana over the next five years.

Later Monday, Landrieu is also planning a meet-and-greet event with Jeff Davis officials and veterans.

That event will be held at the Jennings Conference Center to discuss issues concerning Southwest Louisiana residents.

KPLC's Gerron Jordan is covering the event and will have more on later editions.
