Oahu Now Included in Tropical Storm Warning, Watch for Kauai & Niihau

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

As of 11:00am HST, Oahu joins the Big Island and Maui County under a Tropical Storm Warning. Kauai and Niihau are now under a Tropical Storm Watch.

Areas affected. This local statement provides information for portions of the Hawaiian Islands and adjacent coastal waters.

Watches/warnings.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui, the Big Island.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Maui County waters. Waters around the Big Island.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Kauai and Niihau.

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Kauai channel, Oahu Windward waters and Oahu leeward waters.

A Tropical Storm Warning means that Tropical Storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours somewhere within the specified areas.

A Tropical Storm Watch means that Tropical Storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours somewhere within the specified areas.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all Hawaiian islands beginning at 6:00 am HST Monday.

Storm information. At 11:00 am Sunday, the center of tropical storm Flossie was located about 430 miles east of Hilo, or about 615 miles east of Honolulu. Tropical Storm Flossie is moving W at 20 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 60 mph.

    While many people across the United States watched today's solar eclipse with special eclipse glasses, some students at Dequincy Elementary had a different option.  Smiles were on many faces of the third graders at the school, who were able to view the solar eclipse through a special Dobsonian telescope.     A Westlake man was arrested on child pornography charges for the third time, according to James Anderson spokesman for Louisiana State Police. Joshua J. Cupit, 35, was arrested after Troopers searched his residence is Westlake and found that Cupit had downloaded and shared videos of children being sexually abused, said Anderson.  Cupit is a registered sex offender in two other states for previous convictions related to child pornography.
