Area pizza makers square off at Pizzapalooza

SYLVANIA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There was plenty of pie this weekend at Centennial Terrace in Sylvania… pizza pie.

Thousands came out to enjoy the fourth annual Pizzapalooza.

Ten shops were invited to compete against one another for who has the best area pizza.

And that's what makes Pizzapalooza so special, all the shops are locally owned and operated.

"You know there's a lot of people who own small businesses and what a perfect way to showcase that in Northwest Ohio. We have lots of pizza vendors," said Pat Nowak of the Sylvania Area Chamber of Commerce.

The winners:

Charlie's pizza took home the first place prize.

Amy's pizza took second... And J Cups won third.

Judges voted PizzaPapalis as having the best cheese and pepperoni pizza.

In the specialty pizza category, Charlie's pizza won.
