Woman sexually assaulted inside south Nashville apartment

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police are looking for a suspected rapist after a woman says she was attacked in her own apartment early Friday.

Investigators said a man wearing a mask broke into an apartment through an unlocked sliding door at the Arbors of Brentwood off Edmonson Pike around midnight.

He then sexually assaulted a woman before fleeing the scene.

A police K-9 assisted officers at the scene but could not locate the suspect. The victim, who said she does not know the suspect, was transported to the hospital.

"For me, as a woman, staying here, I just want to feel safe," said a neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.

Now, police and concerned neighbors are hoping someone comes forward with information that will help get the man responsible for the assault off the streets.

"I just hope they find the person who did it," the neighbor said.

Channel 4 News tried to get a comment from the apartment complex, but they referred us to the property manager. We left a message but have not heard back yet.

A witness described the attacker as a Hispanic man, who was wearing a white T-shirt, blue shorts, red socks and gloves.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.

Many parents are angry after finding out there is a chance their child might not be able to attend pre-kindergarten for the upcoming school year.

A family's income has to be below 185 percent of the federal poverty guidelines to be accepted into a pre-K program with Calcasieu Parish Schools.

Unfortunately, many families who applied didn't meet those requirements, and have received a letter saying they've been wait listed.
