LDWF expects a decline in the giant salvinia growth

Relief is on the way for Lake Charles residents who have been dealing with the salvinia on the Calcasieu River.  The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' along with regular environment factors will help to control efforts.

A wet spring caused an enhancement in plant growth beneath the saltwater barrier. LDWF expects conditions to return to normal conditions during the next few weeks.

LDWF will be monitoring locations that have recorded lower salinities. Herbicide treatments will be made on public waterways as needed to combat the plant throughout the year.
