Attorney General's Office: Castro evidence testing done, FBI back at Seymour address

Ariel Castro Ariel Castro
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio Attorney General's Office says it has completed DNA testing in the Ariel Castro case, and provided a second DNA report to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday.

Jill DelGreco, spokesperson for the AG's Office, tells 19 Action News they could still do more DNA testing if the prosecutor requested it, but a judge would have to approve that because the evidence left to be tested would be consumed. That means any sample like that would be so scientifically small that in order to test it, it would be used up and would no longer exist.

At a hearing Wednesday morning, prosecutors and defense attorneys bantered back and forth about what testing had been done and when reports would be available. The Attorney General's Office says they gave the prosecutor one report on some DNA testing some time ago, and the second round of results was just returned on Tuesday.

Results from firearms testing and fingerprints testing were returned weeks ago.

Meantime, a few members of the FBI's Evidence Response Team were back at Ariel Castro's former residence on Seymour Wednesday.

The exact reason why they were there was not disclosed.
