Jersey Mike's sub shop robbed in south Nashville

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police are looking for a man who robbed a south Nashville sandwich shop at gunpoint Monday night.

The robbery occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the Jersey Mike's on Murfreesboro Pike just north of Nashboro Boulevard.

A female employee was outside smoking in front of the store when she saw a man loitering. She then gave the suspect a cigarette after he asked for one.   He then followed her into the shop where he pulled up his shirt and displayed a black handgun.

The gunman demanded cash and told the employees not to press the alarm button.

Employees handed over the money and the gunmen left through a back door.

Employees then called police, who used a helicopter and ground teams to search the strip mall and woods behind the business. However, the robber is still at large.

Witnesses said the gunman has a thin build, is in his 40s, 5'8" to 5'10" and has blonde hair.

The sandwich shop employees said the robber was also clean shaven, wore a baseball hat and appeared to be homeless.

Call police if you can help in the investigation.
