NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Metro police are investigating a bizarre theft case in east Nashville in which the suspect's loot included human ashes.

The investigation started as a break-in on North Second Street last week after someone pushed in a window air conditioning unit to gain entry into the home.

A resident reported the thief stole an Xbox, a Wii, other electronics and a bottle of rum.

The next afternoon, the same house was hit.

Officers investigating the second burglary were turned on to William Eugene Cantrell after his grandmother found him with an urn of ashes that didn't belong to him.

Police were able to identify and recover some of the stolen items, and they say Cantrell later confessed.
