LA Tech unveils new football helmet for 2013 season

RUSTON, LA (KSLA/Louisiana Tech Sports Information) -

Louisiana Tech Athletic Department officials unveiled a new football helmet design for the 2013 season and a specialty helmet design that will be worn for the team's Heart of Dallas Classic game against Army on Sept. 28 in the Cotton Bowl.

Fans following LA Tech's Facebook (LA Tech Athletics) and Twitter (@LATechFB, @LATechSports) accounts were given a preview of the new helmet design Wednesday.

The new design for the season features the University's logo on the team's traditional red helmet. The change to the helmet decal was made to provide a more consistent brand image being shown to fans, alumni and national television audiences. The University is making a renewed effort to improve consistency in branding, something that is important as LA Tech joins Conference USA with up to 10 football games being televised this fall. The change was made by both the University and Athletic Department administrations.

For LA Tech's Heart of Dallas Classic game against Army on Sept. 28 at the historic Cotton Bowl, Louisiana Tech will wear its traditional red helmet with a "Stars and Stripes" design inside the State-and-T logo, with the "T" portion having a field of blue with white stars while the "State" portion will have red and white stripes. The Army game is also LA Tech's annual "Military Appreciation Day" with promotions designed to highlight and recognize the efforts of the men and women who serve to protect and defend the United States.

The Athletics Department has already worked with EA Sports to ensure that the new helmet designs will be available in NCAA Football 14 once the company releases its initial uniform update patch. That update is expected to be pushed to game consoles around the last week of August.

T-shirts and other merchandise with the updated helmet is already on sale in the Barnes and Noble Bookstore at LA Tech.

The 2013 season will mark the first under new head coach Skip Holtz as the Bulldogs enter the school's inaugural season as a member of Conference USA. The season begins on Aug. 31 when LA Tech plays at NC State in Raleigh. LA Tech's home schedule begins on Sept. 7 when the Bulldogs host Lamar at 6 p.m. at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Tech football fans can take advantage of the "C-USA SALE-ebration Special" by purchasing one ticket (east side general admission only) and receiving a second one for free to any of the Bulldogs four home league games this year against Tulane (Sept. 12), North Texas (Oct. 19), Southern Miss (Nov. 9) and Tulsa (Nov. 23).

To take advantage of this single game ticket special, fans can call the Tech Ticket Office weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Season tickets and tickets to the Heart of Dallas Classic against Army at the Cotton Bowl Sept. 28 are also on sale and can be purchased by contacting the Tech Ticket Office.
