TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Adoptions are up from Pima County's animal shelter, but so are the numbers of pets coming through the front door.

Pima Animal Care Center says in the first eight days of its fiscal year, which started July 1, the center has saved 346 pets, primarily through adoptions and through rescue partners.  That's up from 243 at this time last year.

But in that same time period, PACC has taken in 639 pets.  That's higher than the same time period last fiscal year, when the shelter received 556.

The shelter is offering a deal this weekend on adoptions: all pets will be available for a special adoption rate of $13, which includes all vaccinations, microchip, and spay/neuter surgery.  For the remainder of the month, the $13 special will apply to adult cats and to dogs over 40 pounds.  That adoption fee still includes shots, microchip and sterilization.

The adoption center is located at 4000 N. Silverbell Road.  Hours are from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
